When we started building ProsperityEHR in the fall of 2023, a lot of our clients looked at us with trepidation. How can you take 30 years of hard work and distill that into something new, modern, and configurable enough to meet our needs?
I understand the hesitation. It takes a lot of trust to make the leap to switch technologies. The truth is, technology is often an avenue to meet regulatory needs and not driven by what the practice or clinician needs. Switching means that the value really must be apparent. Just as important, as we talked to many providers from current client organizations as well as those who have never heard of us before, was the need for intuitiveness in the system. The only way we could deliver on our mission to improve access and clinical outcomes in behavioral health was to go all in on creating a new platform that clearly demonstrated value immediately through having a usable system that required minimal training.
Nerves were high as our first group of users went live. While we’ve had clients in our sandbox environment for quite some time as we conducted user research, seeing it being used in the context of patient care was something we all held our breath on as we waited to hear the feedback. How did we do?
I was fortunate to be on-site and be able to hear feedback firsthand as clinicians moved through the system. I offered to help train a couple of users who were nervous about documenting their notes. After we spent about 10 minutes reviewing the system basics, they went through documenting and billing sessions while we discussed a variety of topics. One therapist told me: “Oh yes, the system will work just fine. I got through my session note and billing pretty fast! It’s about the opportunity to do things right, to document just a little bit more, and be more transparent with my patients. An EHR is just an opportunity to be better.” Another therapist who had only previously documented on paper did a happy dance after completing three notes. She said “”This isn’t so bad! I can do this!” We still have work to do, but so far we’re off to a promising start.
Anecdotes like these are just the beginning of the journey we take with each client. Our goal is to create a system that feels intuitive and helps practices grow, but it’s more than that. We’re building something to support the people doing life-changing work. That means the responsibility is real, and we take it seriously.
We know we have to live up to the opportunity we’ve been given. When a clinician chooses our platform, they’re trusting us to support their care, their time, and their mission. That’s not something we ever want to take lightly. Every feature we build, every piece of feedback we receive, every note successfully entered—it’s all part of delivering on that trust.
It’s incredibly inspiring to witness the work happening every day in the mental health field. We’re honored to stand behind the people who are saving lives and changing worlds.
And hey, getting on-site, connecting with our clients, and hearing real feedback—both the positive and constructive—is the best motivator to keep building the solution they deserve.
